What do the rarity letters mean?

C Common · U Uncommon · R Rare · K Radiant · SR Super Rare · HR Hyper Rare · AR Art Rare · SAR Special Art Rare · UR Ultra Rare. On Gem Pack cards, ● is the most common and ★★★ the top tier. Letters are shown as printed on the card.

Pokémon ex (6)

Big full-art cards (SAR, UR).

V, VMAX and Radiant (7)

Venusaur and Blastoise lines, then the Radiant cards.

Pikachu (8)

Captain Pikachu and the four Collect 151 Pikachu art cards.

Gem Pack art cards (17)

One illustration each, by Gem Pack volume.

Classic Pokémon (18)

Sorted by Pokédex number, so every evolution line sits together.

Supporters (6)

Trainer art cards, oldest set first.

Items and Tools (3)

Trainer item cards.

Gem Pack cards print two numbers, for example 04 · 07/07: the first is the Pokémon's own number, the second is the card number and total.

Good for long-term holding?

We have no price data yet, so this is a scarcity guide, not a price forecast. We look at two things we can check: is the set gone from retail, and is the card a top rarity.

  • Gone from retail. If you can no longer buy the pack at the shelf, the cards are harder to get later.
  • Top rarity. ★★★, SAR, UR, SSR, SR and AR cards are the ones people chase.
  • A Pokémon people love and art you love. The second one matters most, because you will look at it for years.

Strongest case: not at retail and a top rarity (17)

Gem Pack Vol 1 to 3 and the four Collect 151 boxes.

Worth watching: hard to find at retail (3)

Cards from sets that are still mostly in stock, such as Gem Pack Vol 4 to 6, are left out on purpose: more supply is still on the shelf. Retail availability is our own experience, checked 5 Oct 2026.

How to hold

Sleeve rare cards straight out of the pack, photograph them, and write down what you paid and when. A sharp card is easier to sell later, whatever the market does.

Not financial advice. Cards can lose value. Never spend money you need.
