How to search a mall

  1. Save the metro station and a screenshot of the map pin before you leave.
  2. Have Alipay or WeChat Pay ready. Many shops expect it.
  3. Go to the right floor. The floor is on every card below.
  4. Plan 2 or 3 stops in one mall. If one has nothing, the next one is close.

From abroad

Not in China? Chinese cards are mostly sold through apps: Taobao for new product, Xianyu for second-hand singles and Pinduoduo for low prices. Each has its own seller ratings and risks.

  1. Check the seller rating and how long they have been selling.
  2. Ask for a photo of the exact box or card, with today's date on paper.
  3. Pay inside the app, never by private transfer.
  4. Check the set code on the box against our set list.

Quick questions

Where is the best place to start looking for Chinese Pokémon cards?

An official Pokémon Gym in a big mall. Pick your city, then check the metro station and the floor on the place card.

Do KKV, MINISO, TOP TOY and Toys"R"Us sell Pokémon cards?

Sometimes. Stock changes by store and by week, so treat them as a bonus when you walk past, not as a reason to travel.

Do I need Alipay or WeChat Pay?

Many shops expect one of them, so set it up and test it before you leave home.

Are the Pokémon vending machines worth a stop?

Yes, as an extra stop. Machines move and run empty, so do not plan a whole day around one.
